He kōrero mō mātou | About us
Waikato Waters is a new publicly owned water company bringing together six district councils across the region to deliver water and wastewater services for our Waikato communities.
We're here to deliver Local Water Done Well — important work which will shape the future of water services across the region.
As we continue to grow, we're looking for a talented Communications Advisor who thrives in a fast-paced infrastructure environment, can champion our work in our communities, and help people understand the wonderful world of water in the Waikato. If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
Te tūranga | The role
As we bring together water and wastewater services across our councils, communications and engagement have never been more important. We're building a local organisation, establishing a new brand, and focusing on delivering trusted, high-quality services for our customers and communities.
As our Communications Advisor, you will develop and implement communication and engagement plans for projects both through consenting or "shovel ready" projects, develop and support our internal communications, help grow our digital presence in our communities, and contribute to a broad range of communications activities across Waikato Waters.
Ō mahi | What you'll do
Working closely with the Communication and Engagement Manager you will deliver communication that builds trust, strengthens relationships and supports organisational success, by:
- Partnering with business units to understand their communication needs and provide trusted advice and support.
- Developing and delivering communication plans that support organisational initiatives, operational projects, and change programmes.
- Supporting business teams with communication planning and engagement activities.
- Creating engaging internal communications that keep employees informed, connected and aligned with organisational priorities.
- Creating high-quality and interesting digital and visual content for a wide range of projects and audiences.
- Assisting with media relations by developing positive news stories, building relationships with journalists, monitoring local news and our digital channels.
- Iwi Partnerships: integrating Te Mana o te Wai principles and working alongside local iwi and hapū.
- Promoting, enhancing and protecting the Waikato Waters brand through clear, consistent messaging.
Ō pūkenga | What you'll bring You're an experienced communications professional who enjoys building relationships and making complex information easy to understand.
You'll be confident working with senior leaders, comfortable managing competing priorities and passionate about producing communication which makes a difference. Therefore, you will ideally have:
- Around 3-5 years' experience in communications, engagement, customer relations or a similar role
- Ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders from the boardroom to field crews, contractors to residential customers and businesses
- Outstanding writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt your style for different audiences and channels
- Experience supporting communication planning, campaigns or organisational change
- Experience and interest in media relations and digital platforms
- An understanding of how to engage respectfully with Māori communities and develop culturally appropriate communications
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail
Experience within local government, infrastructure, public sector or customer experience communications will be highly regarded.
