Waikato Waters is a brand-new, publicly owned water utility company bringing together water and wastewater services across the Waikato region - built from the ground up to deliver for communities today and for generations to come.
 
Te tūranga | The role
 
This is Waikato Waters foundational risk and compliance role - establishing the frameworks, registers and assurance processes that will underpin the organisation from day one. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will own enterprise risk, compliance obligations and internal controls across a newly formed utility company operating under significant regulatory scrutiny.
 
Ō mahi | What you'll do

• Establish and maintain Waikato Waters enterprise risk framework, risk registers and reporting
• Build and manage the compliance obligations register aligned to statutory and contractual requirements
• Coordinate internal controls and assurance activities, including audit liaison
• Lead privacy and OIA escalation and incident response
• Support fraud and ethics response and protected disclosures processes

Ō pūkenga | What you'll bring
 
You bring a strong combination of risk management discipline and practical compliance experience - comfortable operating independently and building frameworks in a greenfield environment.

• Demonstrated experience establishing or managing enterprise risk and compliance frameworks
• Sound knowledge of NZ public sector or regulated entity compliance obligations
• Experience with internal controls, assurance and audit processes
• Strong written communication - able to translate risk into clear, actionable reporting
• Background in water, infrastructure, utilities or local government is desirable
