Te tūranga - The role
As the Strategic Planning Lead, you will lead the development of Asset Management Plans (AMPs) and strategic planning inputs that underpin long-term infrastructure decision-making. You’ll translate asset performance, demand, and risk information into clear, evidence-based investment advice, ensuring alignment between strategy, asset priorities, and future infrastructure programmes. Working across the organisation, you’ll bring together technical, operational, and financial perspectives to ensure planning is robust, consistent, and future-focused.
Ō mahi - What you’ll do
- Lead the development of risk-informed, evidence-based Asset Management Plans aligned to statutory and regulatory requirements
- Translate asset performance, demand, and risk insights into clear investment narratives to support decision-making
- Coordinate cross-functional inputs from Asset Management, Design & Consenting, Project Delivery, Operations, Finance, and Strategy
- Provide strategic asset planning input into Water Service Strategy and broader planning processes
- Ensure alignment between long-term strategy, asset priorities, and infrastructure investment programmes
- Drive continuous improvement in asset planning frameworks, methodologies, and decision-support tools
- Maintain visibility of improvement initiatives and embed them into organisational planning and assurance processes
Ō pūkenga | What you’ll bring - Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, infrastructure planning, asset management, or similar (or equivalent experience)
- Strong experience developing Asset Management Plans and long-term infrastructure planning outputs
- Ability to translate complex asset, demand, and risk information into clear, strategic investment advice
- Proven ability to work across functions and align diverse stakeholders
- Strong understanding of New Zealand regulatory and assurance requirements for water or infrastructure planning
- Ideally, IPWEA Asset Management Planning certification (or similar)
