Te tūranga | The role
Based in central Hamilton, and reporting to the Financial Controller, the Payroll Advisor is the primary interface between Waikato Waters and its external payroll provider — ensuring accurate, compliant payroll operations for a large, multi-site workforce from May 2026. This is a role where precision matters and trust is earned through consistent delivery.
Ō mahi | What you’ll do
- Act as the primary contact for the external payroll provider
- Resolve employee payroll queries and ensure timesheets, leave, deductions and employment changes are accurately processed
- Monitor information exchange with the payroll provider to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Prepare FBT returns and support payroll audits and reporting
- Process employee expense reimbursements accurately and on time
- Ensure compliance with NZ payroll legislation and employment agreements
Ō pūkenga | What you’ll bringYou are a seasoned payroll professional — technically strong, discreet with sensitive information, and known for getting it right every time.
- 5+ years’ experience in a payroll role
- Strong knowledge of NZ payroll legislation, employment agreements and delegated authority requirements
- High level of accuracy and sound judgement in interpreting payroll rules and entitlements
- Confident user of HR and payroll systems
- Discretion in managing sensitive or complex payroll issues
