Farm Operations Manager
Location: Washington, CT

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 per year, depending on experience
About the Role We are seeking an experienced Farm Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operations and continued growth of an expanding private farm in Washington, Connecticut. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced agricultural professional with strong knowledge of farm management, greenhouse operations, livestock care, property maintenance, and agricultural infrastructure.
Working closely with the farm owner and leadership team, the Farm Operations Manager will oversee daily farm operations, manage staff, coordinate construction and improvement projects, and develop efficient systems that support the farm’s long-term growth.
The ideal candidate is a practical, solutions-oriented leader who enjoys working both independently and alongside a team and brings a strong passion for plants, animals, agriculture, and sustainable farm operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily farm operations, including greenhouse production, livestock management, landscaping, and property maintenance.
- Lead, supervise, train, and schedule farm staff while maintaining high standards for safety, efficiency, and quality.
- Plan and oversee farm construction and infrastructure projects, including barns, fencing, irrigation, drainage, and property improvements.
- Manage greenhouse systems, including irrigation, lighting, climate control, and environmental monitoring.
- Oversee the daily care, feeding, safety, and health of livestock, including goats, poultry, and guardian dogs.
- Maintain accurate records related to crops, livestock, equipment, inventory, production, and farm activities.
- Partner directly with the owners to improve operational systems, increase efficiency, and support the farm’s continued expansion.
- Develop and implement operational procedures, policies, and best practices.
- Establish and monitor biosecurity, pest management, and disease prevention protocols.
- Manage purchasing, supplies, equipment, and farm inventory while proactively identifying operational needs.
- Operate and maintain farm equipment and machinery and coordinate repairs and maintenance as needed.
- Identify and mitigate operational risks related to weather, pests, disease, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal agricultural regulations and safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- 5–10 years of professional experience in farm management, agricultural operations, construction, landscaping, or agricultural project management.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams in a hands-on operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of greenhouse management, irrigation systems, livestock care, and farm maintenance.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience operating and maintaining farm machinery and equipment.
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and make sound decisions independently.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, reliability, and accountability.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Science, or a related field.
- Experience managing private, nonprofit, community-based, or specialty farm operations.
- Background in construction, landscape management, agricultural infrastructure, or property development.
- Experience with regenerative, sustainable, or environmentally responsible farming practices.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, irrigation, or other farm infrastructure systems.
- Experience overseeing agricultural construction or capital improvement projects.
