Nanny / Family Assistant
Location: Port Washington / Sands Point, NY (with travel)
Schedule: 1:30 PM – 7:30 PM | 30 hours per week guaranteed
Flexible options may include Monday–Friday, Sunday–Thursday, or Monday–Thursday with occasional weekend support
Compensation: $35–$40/hour (flexible for the right candidate, based on experience)
Overnight Stipend: $100 per night (flexible)

A warm, welcoming, and down-to-earth family in Port Washington / Sands Point is seeking an energetic, organized, and reliable Nanny / Family Assistant to support their two school-age children and assist with light household needs. This is a long-term role for someone who enjoys being an active part of a family, thrives in an after-school-focused schedule, and brings patience, structure, and positivity to their work.
The ideal candidate is confident managing school routines, enjoys engaging children through play and creativity, and is comfortable supporting different learning styles and personalities.
About the Family
- 9-year-old son: Smart, kind, and curious. Loves baseball, superheroes, and reading. He has ADHD (both inattentive and hyperactive) and benefits from a caregiver who is patient, structured, calm, and encouraging—especially during transitions and moments of frustration.
- 5-year-old daughter: Creative, sassy, sweet, and affectionate. She loves art projects and playing with dolls. Academic support is primarily focused on her, especially helping read and understand directions and guiding her through age-appropriate learning activities.
- Family dog: Bowie, a friendly 40 lb Cavapoo who is very much part of daily life (dog lovers are a big plus).
- Household: Jewish family; respectful awareness of traditions and values is appreciated.
Role Overview The
Nanny / Family Assistant will be responsible for managing after-school routines, transportation to activities, playdates, homework support, and child-related household tasks. During the summer, the children attend camp, and the role will focus on camp pick-ups, activity coordination, and continued household support.
The family travels periodically, including an annual
one-month summer stay in New Hampshire. Travel is welcomed but not a deal breaker. When traveling, the candidate will maintain the same work schedule with additional overnight compensation. Room-sharing during travel may occur, especially when traveling with extended family caregivers.
This role is best suited for someone who is proactive, adaptable, organized, and genuinely enjoys contributing to a busy but warm household.
Responsibilities
- School and camp pick-ups; driving children to and from after-school activities
- Coordinating and hosting playdates, including supervising multiple children in the home
- Homework assistance and academic support, primarily helping the younger child read and understand directions and tasks
- Providing patient, structured support for a child with ADHD, including emotional regulation and routine management
- Engaging children in active, creative, and age-appropriate play (arts and crafts, outdoor play, games, reading)
- Preparing healthy meals and snacks for the children
- Children’s laundry and light tidying of child-related areas
- Putting away groceries, emptying the dishwasher, and prepping vegetables for the household as needed
- Occasional errands when not actively caring for the children
- Supporting family travel as needed, including overnight stays
Requirements
- Prior experience working with school-age children
- Experience supporting children with ADHD strongly preferred
- Active, energetic, patient, and emotionally intuitive caregiving style
- Valid driver’s license and confident, safe driver
- Comfortable working in a home with a dog
- Organized, dependable, and proactive; able to anticipate needs
- Flexible with schedule and open to travel (though not required)
- Long-term mindset and interest in growing with the family
Compensation & Benefits
- $35–$40/hour, flexible for the right candidate
