Te Ara Tāwhaki Not -for-Profit Mentoring Programme
The IoD is committed to supporting NFP directors by providing more accessible content, events and development opportunities to build capability for IoD members in NFP governance.
Te Ara Tāwhaki NFP Mentoring Programme is a 10-month mentorship – providing a platform for NFP directors and trustees to continue building their capacity as community leaders at the coalface and contributing to the governance of Aotearoa’s community organisations.
Successful applicants will be matched with an experienced director for one-to-one mentoring.
We invite applicants:
- With fewer than five years in a NFP governance role
- Currently serving on the board of a registered charity or incorporated society
- Committed to learning, self-reflection and making a difference in their community
Mentees can be based anywhere in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Commitments of the programme To participate in Te Ara Tāwhaki NFP Mentoring Programme you should be able to accept the time commitments of:
- Up to seven mentoring sessions in the 10-month period which you will need to initiate and lead
- An online induction session – 9 December 2026
- Four expert sessions online – February, April, June, August 2027 (dates TBC)
- Wrap up online session – 19 October 2027
- Complete self-paced online modules - NFP Governance Essentials and NFP Finance Essentials - within 10-month mentoring period.
Application requirements: To submit your application please have ready the following documents.
- Your governance CV
- Your cover letter describing (preferably in the order outlined below):
- What are your governance ambitions?
- What value would a mentoring relationship add to your NFP role?
