JOB SUMMARY
Our client is recruiting an experienced Electrical Foreman to be responsible and accountable for the execution of all electrical projects and maintenance of equipment to ensure maximum effectiveness and productivity. This is a hands on position requiring a technically strong leader with Medium Voltage qualification and sign off authority who is comfortable working in operational environments, including climbing cranes and working in confined spaces such as engine rooms.

Our client is a leading marine engineering and ship repair organisation operating across all major port centres in South Africa. Widely recognised as one of Africa's leading ship repair companies, the business provides specialist services to the global marine, offshore, oil & gas and industrial sectors.
Their capabilities span ship repair, vessel maintenance, offshore engineering, fabrication, upgrades and modifications across a diverse range of vessel types including tankers, container vessels, passenger liners, offshore construction vessels, drilling rigs, FPSOs and naval vessels. The organisation also delivers heavy marine and industrial fabrication services to industries including mining, automotive, paper and pulp, and sugar.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
In order to be shortlisted for the vacancy, the successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies, but not limited to:
- A recognised Electrician Trade Test supported by a valid Wireman's Licence
- A qualification in Electrical Engineering would be highly advantageous
- Medium Voltage qualification with sign off authority, supported by practical experience working on Medium Voltage electrical systems
- Proven experience maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting crane electrical systems
- A minimum of 12 years post apprenticeship electrical experience within a demanding industrial environment
- At least 5 years' experience leading and supervising electricians, assistants, apprentices and contractors
- Strong maintenance experience gained within a manufacturing, marine engineering and/or ship repair environment
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex electrical faults, conduct root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions
- The ability to plan, coordinate and deliver electrical projects within agreed timeframes and budgets
- A hands on leadership style with the ability to motivate, mentor and develop technical teams
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organisation
- Sound computer literacy and the ability to work with maintenance and project related systems
- A strong commitment to safety, quality and operational excellence
- The flexibility to travel and work overtime when operational requirements demand
- Able to safely perform the inherent physical requirements of the role, including working in confined spaces such as engine rooms and climbing crane structures.
JOB DESCRIPTION The role responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Lead the day to day operations of a busy electrical department supporting critical marine and industrial projects.
- Plan, coordinate and oversee electrical maintenance activities and project work to ensure safe, efficient and timely delivery.
- Scope electrical projects, estimate labour and material requirements, and ensure work is completed within agreed budgets and schedules.
- Lead and develop a team of electricians, apprentices, assistants and contractors, fostering a culture of accountability, safety and high performance.
- Drive preventative maintenance programmes across a diverse range of equipment, including crane systems, to maximise reliability and minimise operational downtime.
- Investigate electrical failures, conduct root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions to improve equipment performance.
- Champion compliance with Health & Safety and Quality Control standards while maintaining the highest levels of workmanship and operational excellence.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE A market related salary based on the level of responsibility for this role is on offer, together with membership of the company's provident fund and medical aid schemes, a company vehicle for business travel, a cellphone contract for business use, 19 working days annual leave increasing to 22 days after five years of continuous service, and paid overtime in line with company policy. Core working hours are 07h00 to 15h45 Monday to Thursday and 07h00 to 15h00 on Fridays, with additional hours determined by operational requirements.
