JOB SUMMARY
Our client is recruiting an Import Operator to operate as the sole on the ground representative in Angola, managing import operations, supplier coordination, and shipment execution with a high level of independence and accountability.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
In order to be shortlisted for the vacancy, the successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies, but not limited to:

• Approximately five years’ experience in import or logistics operations
• Proven ability to work independently without day to day supervision
• Strong initiative and sound judgement in operational decision making
• Solid understanding of import procedures in Luanda across containerised, breakbulk, RoRo, out of gauge, and project cargo
• Strong knowledge of customs clearance processes and documentation requirements across different cargo types
• Ability to identify, assess, and manage clearing agents and local service providers
• Ability to recognise and challenge incorrect or misleading feedback from suppliers
• Fluent verbal and written communication skills in Portuguese and English
• Strong organisational and coordination skills
• High attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills when working with remote colleagues

JOB DESCRIPTION
The role responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

• Managing import clearance and documentation for shipments into Angola across multiple cargo types, including containerised, breakbulk, RoRo, out of gauge, and project cargo
• Coordinating shipping lines, port authorities, customs, transporters, crane suppliers, warehouses, and other local service providers
• Operating as the sole on the ground representative for Angola based logistics operations
• Planning and coordinating transport, discharge, and delivery activities for inbound cargo
• Tracking shipments and cargo movements and managing delivery timelines
• Providing regular operational updates to internal stakeholders, customers, and service providers
• Engaging shipping lines and service providers during quiet shipment periods to gather market and operational intelligence
• Identifying, assessing, and onboarding clearing agents and subcontracted service providers as required
• Coordinating project cargo movements and specialised handling requirements
• Compiling and issuing weekly Angola operations reports
• Coordinating onsite local deliveries and supervising execution where required
• Opening, maintaining, and updating shipment files in Xsped
• Updating estimated time of arrival and shipment milestones in Xsped
• Preparing draft invoices based on agreed pricing and transport costs
• Submitting supplier invoices and requesting payment processing
