JOB SUMMARY
A well-established operator in the Southern African logistics sector is seeking a dynamic and operationally astute Operations Superintendent, Stevedoring for their growing team in Walvis Bay, Namibia. This role plays a pivotal part in the company’s drive to re-establish market share and deliver consistent, high-quality stevedoring services to clients across multiple cargo types. The position is shift-based and requires a hands-on leader who is comfortable managing people, ensuring safety and compliance, and taking ownership of port-side cargo operations in a fast-paced environment.

Our client is a recognised name in regional logistics, currently undergoing an exciting growth phase. With strategic investment and executive-level support, their stevedoring division is being positioned to deliver a seamless, one-stop solution to customers. This role is integral to that mission, leading from the ground, driving operational improvement, and rebuilding a critical business unit.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
In order to be shortlisted for this role, candidates must meet the following core requirements:

• Operational experience working with different vessel types
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the stevedoring industry
• Experience in a supervisory or leadership role
• Familiarity with break bulk, heavy lifts, grab & hopper, and skip loading is important
• Experience handling project cargo or specialised lifts
• Strong awareness of operational safety and compliance
• Willingness to work long or irregular hours as vessel schedules demand

You will also hold:

• A minimum qualification of a Matric (Grade 12)
• A Code 08 Driver’s Licence
• Qualification in rigging will be a strong advantage

Namibian nationals and South African nationals will be considered. For non-Namibian candidates, visa sponsorship and relocation assistance will be provided.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The role responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Managing daily cargo operations including loading and discharge of vessels
• Attending port meetings, safety briefings, and pre-plan sessions
• Booking cranes and coordinating stowage planning for vessels
• Allocating tasks to teams and monitoring real-time execution
• Supervising subcontractors and ensuring operational compliance
• Conducting and reviewing risk assessments and safety protocols
• Enforcing the use of PPE and maintaining clear evacuation access
• Liaising with vessel agents, foremen, and operations personnel
• Ensuring accurate documentation and shift handovers are completed
• Identifying operational challenges and taking corrective actions
• Training staff on SOPs and driving continuous improvement initiatives
