JOB SUMMARY
Our client is seeking a Design Engineer to join their Technical and Engineering Department on an 18-month limited duration contract. The successful candidates will contribute to both new product development and continuous improvement on existing models and supporting multiple production lines.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
In order to be shortlisted for this vacancy, the successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies, but not limited to:

• A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Engineering or a related field (BTech or BEng preferred).
• 2–4 years’ experience in a design/engineering role within a manufacturing environment (experience in boatbuilding is advantageous).
• Proficiency in SolidWorks (2015 or later) and basic working knowledge of AutoCAD/Draftsight.
• Solid understanding of design for manufacturing principles and build sequence.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills with a sharp attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English.
• A methodical, self-motivated approach and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Team-oriented with good social and interpersonal skills.
• An interest in boating and practical product development is advantageous.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The role responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Creating and compiling technical documentation including manufacturing, assembly, installation, and quality control drawings.
• Supporting various production lines and ensuring documentation is aligned with manufacturing and quality standards.
• Designing and detailing work for new product development and managing design changes through the Engineering Change Request (ECR) process.
• Designing tooling, jigs, and manufacturing processes with a focus on cost and weight optimisation and ease of assembly.
• Creating 2D and 3D CAD models and performing calculations for design specifications.
• Supporting prototype builds and implementing new technologies to enhance quality and reduce costs.
• Communicating new designs and changes across departments to ensure successful implementation.
• Conducting critical quality checks during part prototyping or ECR processes.
