About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join us on a 12-month parental leave contract, providing support during a critical period of operational and regulatory activity.
Reporting to the General Counsel, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy and partner closely with executive leaders, People & Culture, and operational teams across the business.
This is a hands-on inhouse role suited to someone who thrives in a fast paced, people focused environment and is confident providing pragmatic, solutions focused legal advice.
Role Responsibilities:
- Providing timely, practical legal advice across employment law and employee relations, including complex and high-risk matters
- Proactively identifying and intervening in workplace risks to prevent escalation
- Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial and funding agreements
- Supporting engagement with regulators including the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, Fair Work and other statutory bodies
- Advising on NDIS compliance, privacy, risk management and clients at risk
- Managing relationships with external legal providers and regulators
- Supporting and mentoring a Graduate Solicitor
About You
You are a confident inhouse legal professional who can quickly build trust with the business and manage multiple competing priorities. You will bring:
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Legal Counsel post admission
- Strong experience in employment law / ER, including investigations, disciplinary matters and Fair Work issues
- Previous inhouse experience (highly regarded)
- Experience working in or advising NDIS, health, disability, or a related regulated sector
- Ability to operate independently while knowing when to escalate and “manage up”
- Excellent judgement, time management and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience working with workers compensation matters and complex HR issues
- An understanding of privacy considerations in the NDIS context
- Experience in the not-for-profit sector (desirable)
