Purpose of the IT Systems Engineer role
The Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing management of Microsoft 365 services across the organisation. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of cloud-based collaboration and productivity tools, while supporting end-users and ICT teams through technical expertise, automation, and proactive system monitoring. The role also contributes to strategic planning and continuous improvement of digital workplace technologies.

Role Responsibilities: As an IT Systems Engineer, your work will be split equally between support for Achieve Australia sites across greater Sydney, Head Office, Brisbane and at times with site visits:
- Design, implement, and manage Microsoft 365 solutions.
- Administer Exchange Online, Entra ID, Azure, SharePoint, Teams, Defender, Microsoft Intune, M365 Backup and OneDrive Monitor system health and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell scripts.
- Implement security and compliance policies.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and licensing.
- Provide end-user training and technical support to ICT Team and end-users.
- Troubleshoot ICT tickets from end-users.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess requirements.
- Stay updated on Microsoft 365 updates, security and best practices.
- Documentation: Produce comprehensive documentation for system design, configurations, procedures and processes.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, network engineers, and project managers, to ensure seamless system integration and operation.
To be successful in this role, you will need: - Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology.
- Proven 4+ experience with Microsoft 365 administration.
- Strong knowledge of Exchange Online, Entra ID, Azure, SharePoint, Teams, Defender, Microsoft Intune, M365 Backup and OneDrive
- Experience: Proven experience in systems engineering, with a strong understanding of system architecture, integration, and implementation.
- Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
- Familiarity with security and compliance in cloud environments.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex system issues.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
