A family-owned cattle operation in Central Queensland is seeking a Livestock Overseer, with an opportunity for a partner to undertake a part-time Station Hand role. The property is located approximately 45 minutes from Moura and 2 hours 20 minutes from Rockhampton. Spanning 19,000 acres, the operation runs approximately 1,000 breeders and 1,500 background cattle, comprising Droughtmaster, Santa Gertrudis, and Charolais. This is a practical, hands-on role working closely with the manager/owners in a team environment.
This Livestock Overseer role offers the opportunity to take a hands-on leadership position across all facets of the cattle operation, working closely alongside the owners in a supportive and collaborative environment. While the role carries a strong level of responsibility and autonomy, it is not fully standalone, making it ideal for someone who values input, communication, and being part of a well-run team. The position is particularly well-suited to a couple, with the Station Hand supporting overall property operations and providing assistance to the Overseer when required, while also maintaining their own independent responsibilities. Both roles are available for an immediate or mutually agreed starting date.
Livestock Overseer Key Responsibilities & Duties: - Manage & oversee all livestock operations across the property with a high standard of animal husbandry.
- Demonstrated experience in weaner handling and education, with the ability to develop and maintain a quiet, well-managed herd focused on long-term safety and performance.
- Plan & execute mustering operations using horses and / or working dogs, including travel to a second company-operated property to assist with mustering and livestock activities as required.
- Supervise and undertake yard work, drafting and cattle processing with a strong focus on safety and animal welfare.
- Monitor stock condition, water systems and pasture utilisation to support productivity.
- Maintain property infrastructure including fencing, water points and operational equipment.
- Operate machinery as required for day-to-day station activities.
- Maintain accurate and up to date livestock records, including movements, treatments and performance data.
- Provide regular, detailed reporting to the property owners.
Livestock Overseer Selection Criteria: - Extensive cattle handling experience with a high level of competency and confidence.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in relation to livestock record keeping and reporting.
- Proven ability to manage livestock operation with minimal supervision.
- High standard of horsemanship (own horses required), working dogs advantageous.
- Well-developed organisational and communication skills.
- Practical experience in property maintenance, machinery operation and basic mechanical tasks.
- MR truck licence & firearms licence (held by at least one applicant).
- Experience with solar pumping systems is advantageous.
Station Hand (Part-Time) Key Responsibilities & Duties: - Assist with general farm duties across the property.
- Support mustering operations using horses and / or working dogs.
- Undertake yard work and assist with cattle handling as required.
- Monitor & maintain property infrastructure, including fencing and water points.
- Operate basic farm machinery and equipment.
- Assist the Manager / Overseer and contribute to the smooth day to day running of the property.
- Minimum 2-days per week.
Station Hand Selection Criteria: - Practical experience with livestock and general farm duties.
- Basic horsemanship and cattle handling skills.
- Ability to operate farm machinery safely and competently.
- Willingness to undertake a variety of tasks as required.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
