An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HV Technician (Electrical) to join a growing High Voltage Operations & Maintenance team supporting utility-scale renewable energy and battery storage assets across the UK.
This is a hands-on role for an experienced HV Fitter, Jointer or Authorised Person, ideally with 33kV experience, who enjoys working on complex electrical equipment and wants to play a direct role in keeping critical renewable energy infrastructure operating safely and reliably.

You’ll work across solar, wind and battery energy storage sites, carrying out planned maintenance, installation, cable jointing, repairs, fault-finding and other HV activities.

The opportunity

As an HV Technician, you’ll be responsible for the safe and effective maintenance and installation of HV equipment, working both independently and as part of a wider technical team.
The role will involve regular travel to operational sites, with some home/office-based duties and occasional overnight stays for training or to provide support at other locations.
Ideally, you will be a fully qualified 33kV Fitter/Jointer with experience working on utility-scale renewable energy assets or similar HV infrastructure.

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out planned inspections and maintenance of HV electrical equipment in accordance with legal, technical, manufacturer and contractual requirements.
• Installing, maintaining and repairing HV plant and equipment up to 33kV.
• Undertaking cable jointing and termination works up to 33kV.
• Installing new HV equipment and associated systems.
• Carrying out switchgear fitting and transformer installation activities.
• Supporting fault-finding, troubleshooting and fault resolution on HV plant and equipment.
• Undertaking dead testing on HV plant where required.
• Assisting with earthing and protection system installation and testing.
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records and producing clear technical reports.
• Identifying potential equipment issues and recommending appropriate action.
• Responding to site outages, emergencies and changing operational requirements.
• Working closely with the O&M office and wider engineering team.
• Maintaining safe systems of work and ensuring all activities comply with the relevant electrical and mechanical safety rules.
• Working with contractors, colleagues and other site personnel to ensure work is completed safely and to the required standard.
• Occasionally supporting mechanical or ground-maintenance activities where required.
• Travelling to other operational sites when necessary for training, project work or geographical cover.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a practical, safety-focused HV electrical technician with strong hands-on experience and the confidence to work on live operational sites.
You will ideally have:

• Experience working with HV plant and equipment up to 33kV.
• Strong cable jointing and termination experience.
• Experience with switchgear fitting.
• Transformer installation experience.
• Experience installing, maintaining and repairing HV equipment.
• Experience carrying out dead testing on HV plant.
• A good understanding of HV safe systems of work.
• The ability to identify potential equipment issues and support effective fault diagnosis.
• A strong commitment to safe working practices and quality.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider team.
• A full UK driving licence.

Renewable energy experience

Experience working within utility-scale solar, wind or battery energy storage would be particularly advantageous.
You may also have experience with:

• Earthing system installation and testing.
• Protection system installation.
• HV testing and diagnostic equipment.
• Renewable energy electrical infrastructure.
• DNO-controlled or DNO-connected assets.

Qualifications & authorisations

Ideally, you will have:

• Previously held Fitting and/or Jointing authorisation under recognised HV electrical safety rules.
• Experience in electrical engineering or a relevant technical qualification, or equivalent industry experience.
• CITB SSSTS or an equivalent qualification.
• A full UK driving licence.

Previous or current Fitting/Jointing authorisation under DNO Safety Rules would be advantageous.
