An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Authorised Person (SAP) to join a growing High Voltage Operations & Maintenance team supporting renewable energy assets across the UK and Ireland.
This is a hands-on role working across utility-scale solar, wind and battery energy storage sites, with responsibility for the safe operation, maintenance and management of high-voltage electrical systems.
You’ll play a critical role in keeping renewable energy assets operating safely and reliably, while working alongside experienced engineers, site teams, clients and DNOs.

The opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced 11–33kV Senior Authorised Person who is confident operating HV systems and managing safe systems of work in operational environments.
You’ll be responsible for HV operations and maintenance across a portfolio of renewable energy sites, with a mixture of site-based work and home/office-based activities.
The role offers variety, responsibility and the opportunity to work with a broad range of HV plant and equipment across some of the UK’s most important renewable energy infrastructure.
Candidates must currently hold, or have recently held, SAP authorisation at 11–33kV.

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities will include:

• Maintaining Senior Authorised Person status and operating in accordance with the company’s electrical and mechanical safety rules.
• Carrying out HV switching, isolation and earthing activities.
• Preparing, issuing and cancelling safety documentation.
• Acting as Control Engineer where required and preparing switching schedules.
• Managing interfaces between site electrical systems and DNO networks.
• Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on HV equipment.
• Fault-finding and troubleshooting HV plant and equipment.
• Supporting commissioning activities and basic HV protection testing.
• Managing site outages, emergencies and changing operational circumstances.
• Producing and reviewing method statements, risk assessments and maintenance plans.
• Inducting and supervising contractors and in-house personnel, ensuring safe and high-quality work.
• Delivering Competent Person training where required.
• Carrying out quality checks on contractor and subcontractor activities.
• Maintaining asset registers and producing clear technical and completion reports.
• Liaising with DNOs, asset owners, clients and other external stakeholders.
• Working closely with the wider O&M team to ensure safe, effective and coordinated operations.
• Supporting other operational sites when required, including occasional overnight stays for training or geographical cover.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for an experienced HV professional who takes safety seriously, is technically confident and can operate effectively in a fast-moving operational environment.
You will have:

• Current or recent SAP authorisation at 11–33kV.
• Strong experience operating and maintaining HV plant and equipment.
• Experience fault-finding on HV systems.
• Experience commissioning HV plant and equipment.
• Knowledge of HV safe systems of work and electrical safety rules.
• A detailed understanding of HV equipment and maintenance practices.
• Knowledge of the UK legislation and standards relevant to HV electrical asset operation and maintenance.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to coordinate multiple activities without compromising safety or quality.
• A structured approach to identifying problems, analysing issues and developing practical solutions.
• A full UK driving licence.

Experience

Experience in the following areas would be particularly valuable:

• HV operations and maintenance within renewable energy, including solar and wind farms.
• Battery energy storage systems.
• Previous SAP authorisation within a DNO environment.
• Complex protection relay testing and commissioning.
• Earthing system installation and testing.
• Protection system installation and testing.
• Experience using specialist HV test and fault-finding equipment.

Qualifications Ideally, you will have:

• Electrical Engineering HND or equivalent industry experience.
• IOSH Managing Safely, CITB SMSTS or an equivalent qualification.
• Current or previous SAP authorisation under recognised HV electrical safety rules.

DNO SAP authorisation would be advantageous.
