Estimator – Multi-Utility
Hertfordshire
£45,000 + the opportunity to progress
We’re looking for an Estimator to join a growing commercial team, supporting an increasing volume of tender opportunities across multi-utility projects. This is a great opportunity for someone with a solid estimating background who is keen to expand their knowledge across a wider range of utilities and develop within a hands-on, fast-growing business.
You’ll be working closely with the commercial team to prepare competitive and commercially sound quotations for multi-utility infrastructure projects. While experience across all utilities isn’t required, a background in one discipline such as electric, water, or gas is ideal, with a willingness to learn and broaden your expertise across the wider scope.
This role offers the chance to take ownership, contribute to commercial decisions, and grow alongside a business with a strong pipeline of work and a reputation for delivering nationwide.
What’s in it for you?
- Salary circa £45,000 depending on experience
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Parking available at the office
- Opportunity to develop your estimating and commercial skillset across multiple utilities
- Exposure to a growing business where responsibility and progression are encouraged
Responsibilities of the Estimator: - Prepare estimates and quotations for multi-utility works
- Review drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to produce accurate pricing
- Develop and adjust rates for labour, materials, and subcontractors
- Factor in key variables such as project location, programme, logistics, and scale
- Incorporate considerations such as traffic management, permits, notices, bonds, and site constraints
- Assess commercial risk and ensure projects are viable and profitable
- Support value engineering and propose cost-effective solutions to clients
- Present quotations in a way that supports competitive positioning
- Work closely with operations and commercial teams to ensure estimates align with delivery methods
Criteria of the Estimator: - Previous experience in an estimating role within construction, utilities, or infrastructure
- Experience in at least one utility discipline such as electric, water, or gas
- Strong understanding of labour, materials, subcontractor pricing, and commercial principles
- Commercial awareness with the ability to assess risk, margin, and project viability
- Understanding of factors impacting pricing such as logistics, location, and programme constraints
- Awareness of traffic management and permitting is beneficial
Why join? This is an opportunity to join a business that values development, responsibility, and commercial thinking. You won’t just be pricing work, you’ll be part of a team shaping how projects are won and delivered, with the chance to grow your expertise across a diverse and evolving sector.
