Project Field Engineer – Power / High-Accuracy Metering & Monitoring
Scotland - travel required
£46,000 + vehicle + door to door + overtime
We are seeking a skilled Project Field Engineer to join a specialist team delivering high-accuracy metering, communications and monitoring solutions across critical power infrastructure. This role will focus on the installation, commissioning and fault resolution of metering systems within transmission substations and high-voltage environments, with extensive travel throughout the UK and occasional offshore or international assignments.
What you will be doing
- Carrying out installation and commissioning works for electrical metering and associated monitoring systems at customer sites
- Conducting formal SAT and SIT testing and supporting customer witness testing where required
- Diagnosing and resolving electrical, metering and communications faults using portable test equipment
- Ensuring all works are completed safely, to industry standards and in line with local site procedures
- Preparing and maintaining accurate project documentation including RAMS, commissioning packs and site reports
- Supporting project delivery teams to ensure programmes, quality standards and targets are achieved
- Providing excellent customer service on site to strengthen client relationships and reinforce delivery confidence
What we are looking for: - Practical electrical or systems engineering background with strong field experience
- Experience of working with LV, 11kV and 33kV switchboards and switchgear within infrastructure projects
- Understanding of electrical instrumentation, control systems and high-accuracy metering principles
- Knowledge of communications systems including SCADA, ethernet and protocols such as Modbus, IEC61850, DNP3 and DLMS
- Strong knowledge of Electrical Safe Systems of Work and site safety requirements
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach
- Strong organisation and communication skills with a customer-facing mindset
Qualifications and travel: - Relevant engineering qualifications or practical experience in lieu of formal degree
- Full UK driving licence essential
- Willingness to travel frequently to remote sites across the UK, often on short notice, including offshore locations
- Competencies such as BS7671 (17th/18th Edition), SCADA exposure and safety certifications are advantageous
