An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Geotechnical Engineer to join a growing specialist consultancy delivering projects across the residential, commercial and rail sectors.
This role is suited to a candidate with a minimum of three years' UK geotechnical project experience who is looking to continue developing their technical, reporting and project delivery skills within a supportive consultancy environment.
The successful candidate will be involved in the planning, supervision and delivery of ground investigation projects, interpretation of ground conditions, preparation of technical reports and support of geotechnical design recommendations.

The Role
As Geotechnical Engineer, the successful candidate will support the delivery of geotechnical projects from initial site assessment through to investigation, reporting and technical recommendations.
The role will include both office-based and site-based responsibilities, with regular involvement in ground investigation supervision, factual and interpretative reporting, ground model development and design support.
Applicants should be comfortable working across multiple projects and communicating effectively with clients, contractors, laboratories and internal technical teams.
Key Responsibilities: Ground Investigation and Site Work
- Assist with the planning and delivery of ground investigation projects
- Supervise site investigation works including trial pits, window sampling, cable percussion and rotary drilling
- Liaise with drilling crews, subcontractors, laboratories and project managers
- Undertake soil and rock logging to current geotechnical standards
- Prepare accurate site records, field notes and investigation logs
- Coordinate laboratory testing schedules
- Monitor site progress and report any technical or operational issues
- Ensure site works are completed safely and in accordance with project requirements
Technical Reporting - Prepare factual and interpretative ground investigation reports
- Review and interpret laboratory test results
- Develop ground models and geotechnical parameters
- Prepare foundation recommendations and ground engineering advice
- Support slope stability, retaining wall, earthworks and pavement-related assessments where required
- Prepare clear technical conclusions and practical recommendations
- Ensure reports are accurate, well-structured and commercially focused
- Work in accordance with internal quality procedures and technical standards
Project Delivery - Support project managers with the delivery of geotechnical projects
- Assist with project programming, resource planning and budget control
- Manage assigned project tasks to deadlines
- Maintain clear communication with clients and project stakeholders
- Assist with preparing fee proposals, scopes of work and tender information
- Coordinate project information between site teams, laboratories and reporting staff
- Support the delivery of work across residential, commercial and rail projects
Client and Team Liaison - Communicate professionally with clients, contractors and consultants
- Attend site meetings and project discussions where required
- Work closely with senior engineers and technical specialists
- Support junior staff and graduates where appropriate
- Build strong working relationships across project teams
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative and commercially aware working culture
Health, Safety and Quality - Follow company health, safety and quality procedures
- Prepare and work in accordance with risk assessments and method statements
- Maintain high standards of site safety and technical accuracy
- Report hazards, incidents and near misses promptly
- Ensure fieldwork and reporting are completed to required standards
- Support continuous improvement across project delivery and technical output
About You We are seeking a candidate with a strong foundation in UK geotechnical engineering and ground investigation.
The successful candidate should have a minimum of three years' relevant project experience and be confident supporting site investigations, preparing reports and developing practical geotechnical recommendations.
Applicants should demonstrate strong attention to detail, good communication skills and the ability to manage project tasks efficiently while working across a varied consultancy workload.
Essential Requirements - Minimum 3 years' relevant UK geotechnical experience
- Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience working on UK ground investigation and geotechnical projects
- Project experience across residential, commercial and/or rail schemes
- Ability to supervise ground investigation works
- Experience preparing factual and interpretative reports
- Ability to log soil and rock to current geotechnical standards
- Good understanding of UK ground conditions and ground investigation techniques
- Ability to interpret laboratory data and ground investigation findings
- Strong report-writing and communication skills
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Commercial awareness and ability to work to deadlines
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Experience - Experience working on rail-related geotechnical projects
- Knowledge of Network Rail standards or rail project requirements
- Experience preparing foundation recommendations
- Exposure to slope stability, retaining structures, earthworks or pavement design
- Experience supporting fee proposals or tenders
- Familiarity with geotechnical design software
- Membership of a relevant professional body
- Working towards Chartered status
