The Role
As Senior Geo-Environmental Engineer, you will lead and manage the geo-environmental input across a varied portfolio of brownfield redevelopment projects.
You will be responsible for reviewing and preparing technical reports, developing conceptual site models, managing ground investigations, overseeing risk assessments and supporting remediation strategies through to verification.
The role will also involve close collaboration with civil, structural and geotechnical colleagues, providing contaminated land and groundwater advice to support planning, design and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Contaminated Land and Risk Assessment
- Prepare and review Phase 1 Preliminary Risk Assessments
- Prepare and review Phase 2 Geo-Environmental Assessments
- Undertake and review Human Health Risk Assessments, including GQRA
- Prepare and review Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessments for groundwater
- Develop and refine Conceptual Site Models throughout project stages
- Prepare Remediation Strategies and Verification Reports
- Provide contaminated land and groundwater advice to internal design teams and external clients
- Support planning submissions and the discharge of planning conditions
Ground Investigation and Technical Delivery - Interpret and review ground investigation and geo-environmental reports
- Provide technical supervision of ground investigations
- Manage laboratory testing programmes
- Coordinate and review factual and interpretative site investigation information
- Ensure technical outputs are delivered in line with relevant standards, guidance and client requirements
- Support complex brownfield redevelopment schemes across London and the South East
Project and Client Management - Manage project delivery, programmes, budgets and client relationships
- Liaise with regulators including Local Authorities and the Environment Agency
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary design teams
- Attend client, design team and technical meetings where required
- Support business development, fee proposals and client presentations
- Contribute to the continued growth of the geo-environmental capability within the business
Team Development - Mentor junior engineers and support their technical development
- Review technical work and provide constructive feedback
- Share knowledge across the wider team
- Promote best practice in contaminated land assessment, remediation and geo-environmental project delivery
About You We are looking for a technically strong Geo-Environmental Engineer with extensive experience in contaminated land assessment, ground investigation interpretation and quantitative risk assessment.
You will be confident managing projects, working directly with clients and regulators, and providing clear technical advice to internal and external stakeholders.
You should enjoy working within a collaborative design environment and be comfortable contributing to complex residential, mixed-use and regeneration projects.
Essential Requirements - Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong UK consultancy experience within the geo-environmental sector
- Extensive experience in contaminated land assessment and remediation
- Experience delivering geo-environmental input for residential, mixed-use or brownfield redevelopment projects
- Strong understanding of Phase 1 and Phase 2 assessments
- Experience preparing and reviewing GQRA and DQRA reports
- Strong understanding of Conceptual Site Models and risk-based assessment
- Experience managing ground investigations and laboratory testing programmes
- Knowledge of UK contaminated land legislation and guidance
- Experience liaising with Local Authorities, the Environment Agency and project stakeholders
- Strong technical report writing and communication skills
- Commercial awareness and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Desirable Experience - Chartered or working towards Chartership, such as SiLC, CGeol, CEnv or equivalent
- Experience with controlled waters assessment and remediation
- Knowledge of LCRM, CLR11, C4SLs and Environment Agency groundwater guidance
- Familiarity with brownfield redevelopment constraints in London and across the UK
- Knowledge of geotechnical principles and foundation constraints
- Experience working on complex urban redevelopment sites
- GIS and data management capability
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and supervising site works
- Previous involvement in business development, fee proposals or client presentations
