Metro Tasmania plays a vital role in keeping the state moving and connecting people and communities.
As the largest Tasmanian‑owned passenger transport company, Metro Tasmania plays a vital role in keeping the state moving and connecting people and communities through a comprehensive network of bus services operating across Hobart, Launceston and Burnie. Metro Tasmania is a dynamic and evolving organisation, supported by a diverse workforce of more than 500 people across the state, united by a shared commitment to delivering safe, reliable and customer-focused public transport services that support everyday life and economic activity. The organisation has a number of significant strategic initiatives underway, including the procurement of an integrated ticketing system, the development of intelligent transport systems, and the trialling of zero‑emissions buses.
The Executive General Manager Operations and Network is accountable for Metro Tasmania’s end-to-end operational performance across all depots, ensuring safe, reliable and cost-effective bus service delivery. The portfolio includes bus operations, network planning, timetable and schedule management, and the operational integration of major projects into business-as-usual service delivery.
Based in Hobart, this is a senior operational leadership role requiring both strategic oversight and disciplined execution to drive measurable improvements in service reliability, productivity, workforce performance and commercial outcomes. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Executive General Manager Operations and Network will translate strategy into operational delivery, lead transformation initiatives and embed them into day-to-day operations. The role will provide visible leadership and support to depot and network leaders, building and sustaining a highly capable, future‑ready workforce.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in a senior leadership role leading complex, multi‑site operations in regulated service environments, with a proven record of driving operational performance, productivity and cost efficiencies. A strong track record in organisational transformation, leading large and diverse workforces and building high performing teams is essential. Extensive experience in safety leadership and operational risk management, together with highly developed commercial acumen and outstanding stakeholder management skills, are also required.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in an Executive Leadership Team, committed to innovation and progress in building better transport options for Tasmanians and shaping the future of public transport in the state.
