About the Job:

We are seeking a dedicated Sacristan to join our parish team in a casual role, with the opportunity to transition to permanent part-time once hours are fully realized. The Sacristan plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth preparation and execution of liturgical celebrations, including Mass, sacraments, and funerals. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining the sacred atmosphere of the church and has a strong respect for its traditions and rituals.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Preparation for Liturgical Celebrations
• Set up the altar and sanctuary for Mass and other liturgies, ensuring all necessary items are arranged.
• Manage liturgical equipment (microphones, PowerPoint, etc.) and ensure proper functioning.
• Open the church 60 minutes before Mass, funerals, and other services, handling any last-minute preparations as needed.
2. Care and Maintenance of Sacred Items
• Clean and maintain sacred vessels, including chalices and ciboria.
• Look after vestments, altar linens, and liturgical decorations.
• Monitor and restock liturgical supplies, including candles, incense, hosts, and wine.
• Ensure that weekend supplies are ready and maintain the sanctuary lamp.
3. Special Liturgies and Events
• Prepare for baptisms, weddings, funerals, and other special ceremonies.
• Assist visiting clergy or guest celebrants, and support altar servers as needed.
• Communicate with volunteers and ministry groups to ensure all preparations are in place.

Qualifications and Skills:

• A deep understanding of Catholic traditions and teachings.
• Willingness to learn about liturgical practices, the church calendar, and sacred vessels.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team.
• Availability for weekend, holiday, and special occasion shifts.
• Discretion and reverence when handling sacred items and church matters.

Working Conditions:

• Work primarily within the church and sacristy.
• May involve lifting and handling liturgical items.
• Flexible schedule, including weekends, early mornings, and evenings.
