Our Payroll Services team plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing across multiple entities within the Archdiocese. Managing a complex payroll environment with multiple awards and agreements, we are committed to delivering exceptional service to our employees and stakeholders.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to take the lead in managing a high-performing team of seven Payroll Officers and one Administration Officer.

This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring a leader who can oversee end-to-end payroll operations, drive process improvements, and support the professional growth of the team. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and accurate fortnightly payroll for approximately 4,000 employees, all while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Monday to Friday - 37.5 hours a week Permanent Full Time

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of payroll professionals, ensuring high performance and professional development.
• Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for multiple entities and industrial agreements.
• Ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all payroll operations.
• Manage payroll reconciliation, superannuation payments, and deductions.
• Provide high-level reporting and insights to support financial decision-making.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including HR, Finance, and senior leadership.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency.
• Act as an escalation point for complex payroll matters, providing expert guidance.
• Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, audit requirements, and best practices.

About You

• Proven experience in leading a payroll team within a complex, high-volume environment.
• In-depth knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, tax, and superannuation compliance.
• Strong proficiency in payroll systems (Aurion experience preferred).
• Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to coach and develop a team.
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to analyse data and generate insightful reports for stakeholders.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with a customer service mindset.
• A passion for continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
