About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Legal Counsel to join our team. Reporting to the General Counsel and Safety, Risk & Governance Executive, you will provide comprehensive legal advice and support to the Archdiocese and its agencies. This role combines legal expertise with an understanding of our mission and values to navigate complex legal matters, including commercial, employment, and litigation issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver timely, accurate, and succinct legal advice across a broad range of areas.
- Draft, review, and amend contracts and agreements to safeguard organisational interests.
- Monitor legislative changes and case law developments, providing strategic insights.
- Manage legal risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Provide governance support to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Oversee and coordinate legal action and external legal services.
- Assist with responses to the National Redress Scheme.
- Uphold organisational commitments to safeguarding and reconciliation.
About You You will bring:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent and admission as a solicitor or barrister in Queensland.
- A current unrestricted Queensland practicing certificate.
- At least 5 years’ post-admission experience, preferably with in-house legal exposure.
- Expertise in commercial/contract law, with additional experience in areas like employment law, property law, or aged care law highly regarded.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines.
- A proactive, consultative approach with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.

Additional Requirements Successful candidates must be eligible for a Blue Card, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, and complete relevant background checks.
