Technology Systems Engineer

About Us
The Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane is a dynamic, faith-based community comprising 98 parishes, 146 schools, and 190 social service sites. We employ over 16,000 staff across our agencies including Centacare, Evangelisation Brisbane, and more.
The Technology Solutions team provides shared ICT services across the Archdiocese (excluding schools), including service desk, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and project delivery.
This role sits within a strategic uplift program delivering modern technology and scalable platforms to improve services.
About the Role
We are seeking a Technology Systems Engineer to join our Technology Solutions team during a significant technology transformation. In this role, you will support a complex brownfield environment while contributing to system upgrades, infrastructure modernisation, and the organisation’s migration to Microsoft Azure.
Working within a collaborative technology team, the position plays a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-grade infrastructure solutions. The role will focus on strengthening system reliability, scalability, and security while supporting the ongoing transition to modern cloud technologies.
This is a hands-on opportunity to be involved in meaningful infrastructure improvements and cloud initiatives, contributing to a dynamic and mission-driven organisation.
What You'll Do
- Maintain and enhance virtualised and cloud-based infrastructure
- Drive projects uplifting legacy systems to Azure
- Implement and document systems across their full lifecycle
- Maintain backups, redundancy, disaster recovery and security systems
- Provide high-level support for specialist apps, servers, and networks
- Analyse incidents, lead root cause investigations, and resolve escalated tickets
- Manage operational support tickets, coordinate and deliver enhancement requests, and contribute to project-based initiatives
- Automate tasks using scripts and promote standardisation
- Contribute to documentation, including diagrams, knowledge base articles, and flow charts
- Participate in an on-call roster
About You - 3-5 years' experience in operational systems/infrastructure engineering roles
- Strong experience working with cloud services (Azure), optimisation and performance tuning of cloud‑based workloads, infrastructure components and service configurations
- Skilled in VMWare, Veeam, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online
- Microsoft certifications (e.g. Azure, M365) required
- Deep knowledge of Entra ID, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPOs, Intune
- Experience managing brownfield transformation and uplift projects
- Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skill
Desirable - Experience with DevOps
- Experience with Fortinet, Juniper, SQL platforms
- Familiarity with hybrid Exchange, MS Teams
- Proficiency in automation and scripting (e.g. PowerShell)
- Understanding of Catholic organisational structure and mission
