Director - Romero Centre

The Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane is seeking an experienced and mission-driven leader to guide the Romero Centre, a vital outreach service supporting refugees and people seeking asylum.

About Us
The Romero Centre, located in Dutton Park, is a ministry of Archdiocesan Ministries within the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane. Located in Dutton Park, the Centre provides practical support, advocacy and community services to refugees and people seeking asylum, as well as individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
The Centre supports individuals and families experiencing hardship, vulnerability and displacement, assisting them to rebuild their lives, develop independence and find pathways to housing, employment and community connection.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chair of the Romero Council and the Executive Director of Archdiocesan Ministries, the Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Romero Centre.
The Director will lead the Centre in delivering its mission to support refugees and people seeking asylum through compassionate services, strong community engagement and sustainable resource development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing all operations of the Romero Centre in alignment with its strategic plan
- Expanding services that support refugees and people seeking asylum toward independent and sustainable lives
- Building partnerships with community organisations, parishes, educational institutions and businesses
- Raising awareness of refugee and asylum seeker issues within the wider community
- Strengthening financial sustainability through grants, partnerships and donor engagement
- Managing governance, compliance, risk management and reporting obligations
- Leading and supporting a small team of staff and volunteers
- Promoting a culture of welcome, pastoral care and empowerment for all participants
The role is based at the Romero Centre in
Dutton Park and involves engagement with stakeholders across the Archdiocese and broader community.
About You
We are seeking an experienced leader who combines strong organisational capability with a genuine commitment to social justice and the mission of the Church.
You will demonstrate:
- Proven leadership experience managing staff and programs
- Experience in community services, refugee support, social justice, advocacy or related fields
- Strong strategic thinking and organisational leadership skills
- Experience managing governance, compliance and risk frameworks
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across diverse cultural communities
- Ability to develop partnerships and build sustainable funding and support networks
- Excellent communication, relationship building and advocacy skills
- Alignment with the mission, values and teachings of the Catholic Church
Qualifications & Requirements - Postgraduate qualifications in community services, leadership, business, law, education, theology, communications or similar
- Demonstrated experience in senior leadership roles managing teams and programs
- Strong understanding of governance, compliance and financial management processes
- Ability to engage effectively with culturally diverse communities
- Current driver's licence
- Ability to obtain and maintain:
- Blue Card
- National Criminal History Check
- NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
- Australian Federal Police Check
- Right to work in Australia
