Centacare Family and Relationship Services (CFRS) is a non-profit community organisation that supports the strengthening of family and community relationships, particularly where there is vulnerability and disadvantage.  Our services are available to the entire community regardless of religion, circumstance, ethnicity, economic situation, age, gender or ability. The role:
We are currently seeking a Specialist Family Violence Practitioner to join our team based in our Southport office on the Gold Coast in a 6 month Fixed Term Full Time capacity (Maternity over). Please note that some flexibility is needed in order to meet operational requirements. This is a multi-faceted role providing case management support in a high volume and highly complex work environment.
  
Key Responsibilities:

• Make initial contact with women who have experienced domestic and family violence following receipt of a referral.
• Complete client intakes, including initial and ongoing risk assessments and safety planning.
• Support the client to identify their goals and immediate needs to assist them in increasing safety, agency and autonomy.
• Work from a Trauma Informed and Brief Solution Focused framework to support clients via the provision of psychoeducation and counselling, advocacy, and referral to other services.
• Assess suitability for safety upgrades to assist in keeping women and children safe in their own home.
• Participate in meetings and liaise with other local stakeholders, e.g., Child Safety, Corrections, Housing and QPS as part of a local integrated service response to DFV.
• Co-facilitate psychoeducational groups for women and/or children who are at risk of experiencing or have experienced family violence.

Skills, Experience and Essential Requirements:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or Social/Behavioural Sciences from a recognised institution, with eligibility for membership with APS, AASW, PACFA, ACA, or a similar professional body.
• Demonstrated experience in domestic and family violence practice, including intake, risk assessment, safety planning, crisis intervention, case management, referral pathways, and DVO support.
• Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Domestic and Family Violence Act, Child Protection Act, and Family Law Act, and the intersection of DFV with child safety, family law, and mental health systems.
• Ability to articulate and apply a trauma-informed and solution-focused practice framework.
• Experience in family counselling and facilitating psychoeducational groups and/or delivering training using adult learning principles.
• Highly developed written and administrative skills, including report writing, case notes, data collection, and database management.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to advocate effectively within statutory and community service systems.
• Demonstrated capacity to work professionally and ethically with diverse families experiencing complex needs.
• Current Blue Card (or eligibility to obtain).
• Current Queensland Driver’s Licence (P2 or above).
• Current Australian Federal Police Criminal History Check (issued within the past three months) and a signed statutory declaration confirming no criminal offences in Australia or overseas.
• Evidence of Australian work rights (citizenship or valid visa).
