Position: Private Executive Chef
Location: Brisbane CBD Area
Employment Type: Casual (around 20-30 hours a week)
Work Schedule: 3 Days Per Week (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday)
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly qualified and experienced chef to join a distinguished household close to Brisbane’s CBD. This role offers the unique chance to exercise creativity, autonomy, and precision in a well-equipped private kitchen.
You will have full control over the kitchen operations, menu planning, and grocery management. We’re seeking a chef who thrives in creating exceptional culinary experiences while maintaining flexibility and a calm demeanour. The position starts casually, with a view to become permanent as you establish your rhythm and rapport.
Please note: The household is currently occupied, but a new head of house will be moving in, which may bring a change in dynamic and expectations. Flexibility and adaptability will be key as the role evolves alongside this transition.
This is also a wonderful opportunity to bring new ideas to the table — you’ll have the chance to incorporate your vision, run your own kitchen, and share your love of food in a setting that values creativity and independence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare meals for approximately 4–6 regular household occupants, with occasional increases in guest numbers for à la carte-style dining, depending on family gatherings or visitors to the household.
- Plan and prepare all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) across the week for residents and guests.
- Cater Sunday lunch in an à la carte style for family and guests.
- Develop weekly menus with diverse, high-quality dishes using fresh ingredients.
- Prepare canapés or light catering for occasional small events or gatherings as required. Larger or formal functions may be managed by the chef if capable and willing, otherwise external caterers will be engaged. These events will be infrequent and planned.
- Work within set budgets while ensuring variety and quality.
- Manage the kitchen independently, including grocery shopping and ingredient sourcing.
- Serve dignitaries and notable guests from Brisbane and overseas.
- Cook and prepare meals for days you're not present, ensuring meals are stored for later use (e.g., slow-cooked dishes).
- Maintain full responsibility for the cleanliness, organisation, and upkeep of the kitchen — note that no kitchen hand support is provided.
Working Hours: - Sunday: Focus on Sunday lunch
- Tuesday: Evening dinner served at 7:00 PM
- Thursday: Evening dinner served at 7:00 PM
Please note, while the days are fixed, the number of hours worked on each day is flexible and will vary depending on the style and complexity of meals the chef chooses to prepare. This allows creative freedom in menu planning while accommodating the household's needs. As this is a casual role, hours may fluctuate week to week, but there is an expectation of availability on the scheduled days.
What We’re Looking For: - Executive-level culinary skills with experience in fine dining or luxury hospitality.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage all aspects of a private kitchen.
- International culinary experience is highly regarded.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for creating memorable dining experiences.
- Experience preparing high-end plated meals from scratch without relying on pre-made sauces.
- Ability to coordinate with the House Manager while being a key player in a larger household team.
Benefits: - Complete autonomy over the kitchen and menus.
- Flexibility in work hours.
- Direct interaction with satisfied guests and dignitaries
- Opportunity to create bespoke dining experiences for both intimate dinners and larger gatherings.
This role is perfect for a chef who values flexibility, culinary excellence, and the chance to showcase their craft in a unique and prestigious setting.
