We are looking for a dedicated and organised Cook to join our small, welcoming early learning centre in Hamilton, catering for up to 49 children each day. In this role, you will be responsible for planning and preparing nutritious, balanced meals and snacks in line with dietary requirements and food safety standards. You will manage the kitchen, including ordering supplies, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring all food is prepared in accordance with health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will be reliable, efficient, and passionate about providing healthy meals for young children, with experience in a similar role and knowledge of safe food handling practices highly regarded.
As our Centre Chef, you’ll take the lead in our kitchen—designing and preparing wholesome, child-friendly meals that support diverse dietary needs and encourage healthy eating from a young age. Your creativity and care will help nurture a positive food culture in the centre.
What You’ll Do
- Create and deliver nutritious, age-appropriate meals and snacks aligned with national dietary guidelines.
- Cater for dietary requirements including allergies, intolerances, and cultural needs.
- Ensure food safety and cleanliness standards are consistently met.
- Manage inventory, ordering supplies and reducing food waste.
- Work with educators to support learning themes and special events through food.
- Encourage healthy habits through engaging food experiences for children and families.
What You’ll Bring - Previous experience as a chef, ideally in early childhood, schools, or aged care settings.
- Cert III in relevant studies would be desirable
- Strong understanding of child nutrition and meal planning.
- Food Safety Supervisor certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Excellent time management, communication, and organisational skills.
- A warm, team-oriented approach and passion for children’s wellbeing.
