Finance Manager | Reading | £50,000pa - £65,000pa plus benefits:
A once in a lifetime opportunity has arisen for a passionate Finance Manager to join a stealth robotics company based in the Reading area. This amazing business autonomous robotic vehicle has massive potential across a range of different industry sectors. They are now looking for a hands-on Financial Controller / Manager to take ownership of day-to-day financial operations. Based full time in Reading, with occasional trips to London the Finance Manager will be reporting to the CFO, responsible for reconciling payments, keeping Xero accounting records accurate and up to date, and supporting payment and procurement processes across the business. You will also work closely with the Engineering, Operations, and Marketing teams, providing financial input and support as their projects and initiatives develop.
This Finance Manager role has the opportunity to play a key role in the finance function of a growing business, working closely with the CFO. Your key responsibilities:
- Reconcile bank accounts, payments, and transactions on a regular basis, promptly investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Maintain and update Xero accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring the ledger reflects a true and current picture of the business.
- Process and monitor outgoing and incoming payments, ensuring accuracy, proper authorisation, and timely execution.
- Assist with and help improve payment processes and controls, including supplier payments, expenses, and invoicing.
- Support procurement activities, including raising and tracking purchase orders, liaising with suppliers, and monitoring spend against budget.
- Partner with the Engineering, Operations, and Marketing teams to provide financial support, budgeting input, and cost tracking as their projects develop.
- Assist the CFO with month-end close, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
- Help maintain robust financial controls and identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiency.
- Support internal and external audit requests, and ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and company policy.
About you: - Experience working in a hardware or manufacturing business is important for this role.
- Proven experience in a financial controller, senior bookkeeper, or management accounting role.
- Strong working knowledge of Xero (or equivalent cloud accounting software), with the ability to keep records accurate and current.
- Solid understanding of payment reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable, and procurement processes.
- A relevant accounting qualification (e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or equivalent experience is desirable.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple workstreams at once.
- Strong communication skills, with the confidence to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, and Marketing colleagues.
- A proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to be based on-site full time.
