Salary range: $241,882 - $268,770 inc super

We are delighted to be partnering with VMIA to support the recruitment of a pivotal leadership role in its newly established Health Sector Practice. As the insurer and risk advisor to Victoria’s public sector, VMIA protects more than $240 billion in State assets and over 4,800 client organisations. The Health Sector represents one of VMIA’s largest and most complex client groups, spanning public hospitals, health networks, and clinical service providers and sits at the heart of its client-focused future.

The Head of Health Sector Practice will lead a dedicated team of 12, bringing together sector insight, underwriting expertise, client advisory, and harm prevention capability. You’ll play a central role in shaping the future of how health clients engage with risk and how VMIA’s products and advice evolve to meet their needs.

This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in complexity, builds trust across systems, and is energised by the opportunity to drive impact at scale across the public health landscape.
You will bring:

• 10+ years’ experience in health, insurance, public sector strategy, or risk leadership
• A leadership style that builds trust, drives alignment, and thrives in complexity
  
  
• Strong expertise or understanding of insurance underwriting and pricing, portfolio performance, or product development
  
  
• A strategic mindset with proven experience engaging with senior stakeholders across health systems or government
  
  
• A track record of leading high-performing, cross-functional teams in purpose-driven settings
  
  
• Comfort with navigating matrixed organisations and influencing change through collaboration
  
  
• A genuine commitment to improving public value through better understanding of risk and harm prevention and the role this plays in improving outcomes for Victorians
  
  

Essential Criteria:

• Tertiary qualification in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, Actuarial or a related field
  
  
• Demonstrated exposure to product innovation and/or digital solutions
  
  
• Proven success in delivering capability uplift or transformation in product, or  service delivery
  
  
• You must have permanent and unrestricted rights to work in Australia (citizenship or permanent residency
