Kennedy Builders has been delivering quality residential, renovation, maintenance and insurance reinstatement projects for more than 30 years. With a reputation built on quality workmanship, integrity and strong client relationships, we are looking for a new team member to join our Nelson / Tasman team.
 
We are seeking someone with practical painting, plastering and wallpapering experience who takes pride in their workmanship, works well as part of a team and can confidently contribute on site.
 
This role offers excellent variety, the opportunity to work alongside experienced industry professionals, and the chance to further develop your skills across residential and commercial projects.
 
Working closely with the Lead Decorator and Project Managers, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality plastering, painting and wallpapering work while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
 
About the role
Your key responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out plastering, painting and wallpapering work to a high professional standard.
• Preparing surfaces for decoration, including stopping, filling, sanding and repairs.
• Taking ownership of assigned work and managing day-to-day tasks efficiently.
• Working with the Lead Decorator and Project Managers to keep projects progressing to programme and expectations.
• Identifying and communicating site issues, risks, delays and variations as required.
• Working collaboratively with builders, subcontractors and other team members.
• Building positive working relationships with clients and colleagues and representing Kennedy Builders professionally.
• Communicating effectively regarding work progress, issues and resource requirements.
• Maintaining tools, equipment and property responsibly and keeping worksites safe, tidy and well organised.
• Following Kennedy Builders' Health & Safety policies and relevant New Zealand requirements, including identifying hazards, reporting incidents and near misses, and maintaining safe work practices and required PPE.
• Travelling between project sites within the Nelson / Tasman region.

 
About you
We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:

• Relevant practical experience and/or a qualification in Painting and Decorating.
• Practical experience in painting, plastering and wallpapering.
• Demonstrated competency in delivering high-quality decorating finishes.
• Good planning, organisation and problem-solving skills.
• A strong commitment to health and safety.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team, and independently when appropriate.
• A professional approach and strong customer service focus.
• Reliability, initiative and a positive attitude.
• A current driver's licence.

 
A recognised trade qualification in Painting and Decorating would be advantageous but not essential where an applicant can demonstrate suitable relevant practical experience and skills.
A current Site Safe Passport and First Aid Certificate would also be advantageous.
 
What We Offer

• Permanent full-time employment.
• Minimum 40 guaranteed hours per week.
• Pay of $28.00-$40.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
