Kennedy Builders has been delivering quality residential, renovation, maintenance and insurance reinstatement projects for more than 30 years. With a reputation built on quality workmanship, integrity and strong client relationships, we are looking for a new team member to join our Nelson / Tasman team.
We are seeking someone with practical building experience who takes pride in their workmanship, works well as part of a team and can confidently contribute on site.
This role offers excellent variety, the opportunity to work alongside experienced industry professionals, and the chance to further develop your skills across project delivery, assessments and client liaison.
Working closely with the Project Manager / Operations Lead, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality building, repair, maintenance and reinstatement works while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
About the role
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out residential building, repair, maintenance and insurance reinstatement work to a high standard.
- Taking ownership of day-to-day site activities, coordinating labour, materials, equipment and subcontractors as required.
- Acting as the lead builder on site where appropriate and providing practical support to apprentices and less experienced team members.
- Working with the Project Manager / Operations Lead to plan construction methods, sequence works and keep projects progressing to programme.
- Identifying and communicating site issues, risks, delays, variations and resource requirements promptly.
- Building positive working relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, consultants and other project stakeholders.
- Communicating professionally with clients and promptly escalating any concerns, complaints or project issues.
- Maintaining equipment, tools and property responsibly and keeping worksites safe, tidy and well organised.
- Following Kennedy Builders' Health & Safety policies and relevant New Zealand requirements, including identifying hazards, reporting incidents and near misses, and maintaining safe work practices and required PPE.
- Ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications, company standards and programme requirements.
- Travelling between project sites within the Nelson / Tasman region.
About you We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- A minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience in building or carpentry.
- Sound practical building skills and a good understanding of construction methods.
- Good problem-solving skills and a practical approach to construction work.
- A strong commitment to health and safety.
- Reliability and a good work ethic.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team, and independently when appropriate.
- A current driver's licence.
A relevant building or construction qualification would be advantageous but is not essential where an applicant can demonstrate suitable relevant experience and practical skills.
What We Offer - Permanent full-time employment.
- Minimum 40 guaranteed hours per week.
- Pay of $30.00-$45.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
