ZebraTech is a highly innovative Nelson-based company that designs and manufactures rugged scientific instruments used for underwater environmental monitoring and research around the world.
Established in 1998, ZebraTech is an international leader in its field, industries including aquaculture, marine science, water quality monitoring, coastal research, port operations, and environmental management.
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Assembly Technician to join our manufacturing team at our Nelson headquarters.
About the Role
In this hands-on role, you will assemble and prepare high-quality products that help scientists and environmental professionals collect critical field data in some of the world's most challenging environments.
You will work with both electronic and mechanical components, undertaking a wide variety of manufacturing tasks while helping maintain the high standards ZebraTech is known for.
Key Responsibilities
- Electronic and mechanical assembly of products and sub-assemblies
- Precision soldering and assembly of electronic components
- Encapsulation and casting using specialist resins
- Operating workshop tools, equipment and light machinery
- Maintaining inventory levels and ordering components as required
- Accurate record keeping and documentation
- Supporting efficient manufacturing processes and continuous improvement initiatives
About You We're looking for someone who enjoys building things properly, takes pride in producing high-quality work, and has exceptional attention to detail.
You will ideally bring:
Essential Skills & Attributes - Excellent manual dexterity and ability to assemble small mechanical and electronic components
- Strong soldering skills or solid soldering experience
- Outstanding attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Confidence using workshop tools and equipment
- Good computer skills and ability to maintain records and documentation
- Ability to follow procedures and maintain consistency during batch production work
- A positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a close-knit team
- Strong organisation skills and initiative
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks consistently
Desirable - Interest in science, technology or environmental monitoring
- Enthusiasm for the marine and outdoors lifestyle that Nelson offers
