Kennedy Builders has been delivering quality residential, renovation, maintenance and insurance reinstatement projects across the South Island for more than 30 years. With a reputation built on quality workmanship, integrity and strong client relationships, we are continuing to grow our presence in the Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago region.
We are seeking a Trade Qualified Builder (LBP Carpentry) to join our Central Otago / Queenstown team as a Site Lead on a permanent full-time basis. This role combines hands-on building work with day-to-day site leadership, coordination of trades and subcontractors, apprentice mentoring, and client engagement across a portfolio of residential, maintenance and insurance reinstatement projects.
This role is ideally suited to an experienced builder who enjoys taking ownership of site delivery, leading from the front and developing others. As Kennedy Builders continues to grow throughout the region, there will be opportunities to further develop your leadership capability and contribute to increasingly complex and rewarding projects.
Working closely with the Project Manager / Operations Lead, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality building, repair, maintenance and reinstatement works while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the day-to-day delivery of assigned construction projects
- Coordinating builders, apprentices, labourers and subcontractors on site
- Delivering high-quality residential building, repair, maintenance and insurance reinstatement work
- Managing site activities to achieve programme, quality and client objectives
- Monitoring progress and communicating site issues, risks and variations promptly
- Coordinating materials, equipment and site resources
- Maintaining strong relationships with clients, occupants and stakeholders
- Mentoring apprentices and supporting development of less experienced team members
- Promoting a positive site culture and safe work practices
- Contributing to successful project handovers and completion activities
As part of our growing team, there will be opportunities to broaden your skills beyond site delivery into areas such as site assessments, scoping, project coordination support and client liaison. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to expand their construction career, take on greater responsibility, and build a long-term future with a well-established business.
You will be a practical, reliable builder who takes pride in delivering quality workmanship and enjoys being part of a professional, solutions-focused team.
Ideally you will have:
- Trade Qualification in Carpentry
- Current LBP Licence
- Experience in residential construction and building repairs
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements
- Good communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Sound problem-solving and organisational skills
- Site Safe Passport (or willingness to obtain)
- First Aid Certificate (preferred)
- Competent technology and computer skills
- Proven experience coordinating site teams and subcontractors
- Ability to lead projects while remaining hands-on with construction activities
- Experience mentoring apprentices or junior team members
- Strong client relationship and communication skills
- Willingness to travel throughout Queenstown Lakes, Central Otago and surrounding regions as required
What We Offer
- Permanent full-time employment
- Variety of work across residential construction, maintenance and insurance reinstatement projects
- Career development opportunities and ongoing professional growth
- Supportive and experienced team environment
- Competitive remuneration package
- Opportunity to live and work in one of New Zealand's most sought-after regions
- Relocation assistance may be available for the right applicant
