We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer to support the evolution and optimisation of large-scale, cloud-based database systems.
This role goes beyond traditional database administration. It requires a strong understanding of how databases operate within modern distributed systems, including performance, reliability, automation, and integration with application and infrastructure layers.
You will play a key role in improving the scalability, resilience, and efficiency of critical database environments, while contributing to ongoing modernisation initiatives.
This is a hands-on role with a high level of ownership, suited to someone comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities

• Optimise database performance, stability, and efficiency across large-scale systems
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks at both query and system level
• Support and contribute to database migration and modernisation initiatives
• Design and improve approaches to high availability, replication, and data consistency
• Build and maintain automation to improve database operations and reliability
• Work closely with engineering teams to improve application and database interaction
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues

You should be comfortable:

• Working with production systems at scale
• Understanding end-to-end data flows across distributed systems
• Collaborating across engineering teams
• Writing clean, maintainable code and scripts where needed
