Purpose / Objective
 
The Finance & Accounting volunteer assists the Finance Team in the financial operation of the Asylum Seekers Centre (ASC).
 
Reports to: Chief Financial Office
 
 
Commitment Period: Minimum 6 months
 
Days and hours required per week: 2 days per week 10AM - 4PM
 
Location: 43 Bedford Street, Newtown, New South Wales, 2042
 
Duties & Responsibilities
 

• Assist in maintaining ASC’s accounts, ensuring the General Ledger accounts are reconciled.
• Assist in the payables and receivable functions.
• Assist with reconciling all expenditures on grants accurately.
• Assist with preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
• Assist with preparing and reviewing revenue, expenses, invoices, and other accounting documents.
• Assist with maintaining the asset register including depreciation, additions and disposals.
• Assist with maintaining accounting documents and records to ensure all files are current.
• Assist in the preparation of management reports.
• Assist with maintaining records of operating performance for comparison with estimated budget.
• Assist in the year-end audit process.
• Assist with the preparation of P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow statements.
• Assist in researching and analysing financial and economic information to inform staff and support decision-making.

• Study or graduate in Accounting or Finance.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and macroeconomics.
• Competent skills in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets.
• Well-developed analytical skills and high attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

• A strong understanding of issues relating to people seeking asylum from a human rights perspective.
