To be an office bearer on the Management Committee of Bridge for Asylum Seekers Incorporated (Bridge), ensuring all of the regulatory and legal requirements of such an office are met.
Keep the accounts in order, ensuring all outgoings (electronic funds transfers and credit card transactions) and deposits (cash, cheques, electronic funds transfers, deposits via payment platforms) are recorded and reconciled against the Bridge bank accounts/s.
In conjunction with the Bridge Committee, develop an annual budget and cash flow forecast
Keep track of the income and expenditure each month so that the Bridge Committee knows how well they are keeping to budget and cash flow forecast
If Bridge is running any special campaigns/programs or if grantmakers require it, maintain separate accounts for those programs/grants
For the Annual Report, prepare the financial statements as per the regulatory requirements, including Income and Expenditure Statements and revenue statements, the latter showing:- o Grants and individual contributions - produced in conjunction with Bridge’s Grant Application Writers. o Donated services and materials – placing a dollar value on contributions of certain services and materials. o Special events and benefits (income and expenses)
Keep accurate individual donor record
Liaise with the Bridge Committee-selected auditor - ensuring the auditor has access to all records and reports the auditor requires
Contribute to the development of meeting agendas.
Act as one of the authorisers for funds transfers. The authorisation of three of four authorisers are required for any transfer of funds
Effect all approved electronic funds transfers
Attend monthly committee meetings in person or via video conference.
To participate in the decision making of the Bridge Committee.
To participate in the work and activities required to ensure the success of Bridge and its objectives, as agreed by the Bridge Committee and as directed by its constitution.
Skills, experience and attributes
Has accounting training or a well-developed understanding of accounting
Has the ability for critical appraisal, and can contribute to strategic planning.
Understands or is prepared to acquire knowledge of the financial reporting requirements demanded by the regulatory authorities ie Fair Trading, Australian Charities and Not For Profits Commission (ACNC), and Australian Tax Office (ATO)
Supervision and Support
Responsible to the Bridge Management Committee. Support and supervision provided by fellow members of the Committee or externally as necessary
Participation in an organisation with over 17 years’ experience of successfully providing asylum seekers in need with financial support
Office bearer’s home
Monthly meetings currently held at Balmain Uniting Church, Balmain or via video conference
