Purpose / Objective
To assist the LGBTQIA+ Community coordinator in event and program delivery, coordination, administration and/or support tasks.
Variety of assignments available according to volunteer strengths and interests.
 
Commitment Period: Minimum 6 months
 
Days and hours required per week:  3-4 hours every fortnight. This may vary depending on the peer-group event.

Regular events happen on the first Thursday of the month (5-8:30pm).

 
Duties & Responsibilities
 

• Performing client registration processes prior to the activity and / or on the day of the activity
• Ensuring that clients have all the information required to meaningfully participate in events and programs of interest
• Attending the LGBTQIA+ Peer-Group activities and events, ensuring that a warm and inclusive environment is enjoyed by all participants
• Assisting with event set-up and pack down 
• Ensuring that any wellbeing or safety concerns pertaining to clients are promptly shared with the appropriate ASC Staff
• Liaising with the Peer-Group Coordinator about connecting participants to the appropriate ASC services such as the Health, Employment or Complex Casework
• Assessing activity sites for hazards, responding to, and reporting hazards to ASC staff in a timely manner
• Communication with clients to seek feedback on ASC programs and services e.g. telephone surveys, recording ad hoc suggestions
• Coordinating opportunities to distribute free tickets to performances or shows and communicating outcomes to applicants and staff
• Contribute to the development of the assigned program in close collaboration with the coordinating staff member e.g. identify safe walking tracks for the bush walks
• Assist in developing relevant documentation related to improving services for those who identify as LGBTQIA+
• Other as reasonably requested by the Line Manager

Selection Criteria
 

• Experience in working with people who identify as LGBTQIA+ and people from various backgrounds and cultures
• Strong organisation and time management skills
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills including active listening skills and the ability to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for people seeking asylum
• Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers 
• Flexibility and willingness to take on extra tasks as appropriate
• Ability to adhere to policies in relation to code of conduct, boundaries and confidentiality
• Positive attitude and proactive approach to program development

Desirable

• Intermediate computer skills (confidence in using Google Workspace, the internet and emails)
• Familiarity with databases and/or ability to learn
• First Aid Certificate with a current CPR component
• Experience in managing and delivering events and community activities

• Support a child safe organisation by undertaking screening for suitability to work with children and vulnerable people and to comply with relevant state/territory legislative requirements and willing to provide NSW police check if requested
