As Commercial Manager, you'll partner closely with the General Manager and operational leaders to maximise the commercial, operational and financial performance of the Auckland division. You'll be instrumental in shaping commercial strategy, improving profitability, strengthening contract performance and driving continuous improvement across a large, complex business.
About the role
You will be a key member of the team, providing strategic commercial guidance across multiple business units.
You'll be responsible for financial performance, commercial governance, contract management and business improvement initiatives that support sustainable growth and operational excellence.
No two days will be the same as you partner with operational leaders to identify opportunities, manage commercial risk and ensure informed decision-making across the business.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the commercial and financial performance of the Auckland division.
- Drive annual budgeting, forecasting and monthly performance reporting.
- Analyse business performance, identify trends and implement improvement initiatives.
- Partner with operational leaders to maximise profitability and cash flow.
- Lead monthly commercial and project reviews across the division.
- Provide commercial leadership across contract negotiations, variations, claims and dispute management.
- Review pricing strategies and support estimating teams to improve commercial outcomes.
- Develop commercial strategies that support long-term business growth.
- Strengthen project controls, governance and commercial disciplines across the division.
- Lead and mentor a team including the Finance Manager and Senior Business Analyst.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
About you You'll be an experienced commercial leader with the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on commercial delivery.
You'll also bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Accounting or Finance.
- 10+ years' experience in senior commercial, finance or business leadership roles.
- Proven experience managing commercial performance within a contracting, infrastructure, engineering or project-based environment.
- Strong financial management, budgeting and forecasting expertise.
- Extensive experience in contract and project commercial management.
- Excellent commercial acumen with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Experience leading business improvement and change initiatives.
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to coach and develop high-performing teams.
