Our client
Our client is a world-class West Australian Wagyu beef producer. The company is establishing a premier beef operation in the Pilbara and Kimberley regions of Northern Western Australia by breeding and raising Wagyu cattle with superior genetics and developing supplementary feeding programs that involve irrigated cropping of tropical pastures and maize. They now require a Feedlot Manager to oversee the operations of a 5 to 10,000 head feedlot.
Role
Reporting to the General Manager, the primary function of this role is to manage the feeding processes to ensure they are both cost-effective and meet the performance outcomes for each cohort and ensure that all cattle in the feedlot are healthy and have a high body condition score. It is a comprehensive role that will involve all aspects of day-to-day operations across the business, including cattle work, cropping work, and various tasks such as general infrastructure maintenance.
Responsibilities With a passion for cattle well-being, a drive for business growth, and a hands-on approach, the responsibilities include the following:
- Coordinate livestock operations with the Cattle Manager, including animal intake, pen allocation, health monitoring, and dispatch.
- Ensure proper feeding protocols are followed, monitor feed quality and availability, and order ration ingredients.
- Manage daily feedlot activities, including vehicle and machinery operations, and coordinate cattle movements.
- Efficiently manage personnel and assess staff performance. The role is directly responsible for a team of 3-5 staff members.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, animal welfare regulations, and industry best practices.
Requirements - A minimum of 5 years in a similar role.
- Strong understanding of cattle and animal welfare.
- Proven experience in all aspects of feedlot operations, negotiating and management of supply relationships.
- Knowledge of the National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme (NFAS) Quality Assurance Program.
- Excellent organisational skills overseeing day-to-day planning, within a logistically busy and diverse environment.
- Confidence with technology, ensuring it drives innovation and efficiency throughout the business.
- Proficient in the use of machinery/feed handling equipment and thorough knowledge of the maintenance of such equipment.
- Ability to manage, supervise and develop staff.
- Team player with the ability to roll up sleeves and do the hard yards when required.
Remuneration and Location Competitive remuneration and allowances, based on experience. Accommodation, meals and work vehicle are included.
There is also a generous bonus scheme in place consisting of an annual bonus for full-time employees who complete a year, a short-term incentive bonus offered annually for completed KPI’s and a long-term incentive bonus for employees remaining in employment for five years. The role is located near Port Hedland in WA.
