Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Architect (20+ years' experience) to lead the design and delivery of complex enterprise data platforms within consulting and public sector delivery environments.
The role requires strong architectural leadership, the ability to influence senior
stakeholders, and deep experience designing modern, scalable data architectures that enable business transformation, advanced analytics, and AI-enabled solutions across large organisations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end design of enterprise data architectures supporting complex
transformation programmes.
- Define modern data platform architectures, including lakehouse, distributed
analytics, and event-driven ecosystems.
- Provide architectural oversight of data engineering environments, including
ETL/ELT pipelines, orchestration, and DataOps practices.
- Design secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-optimised data platforms aligned
with enterprise architecture and governance standards.
- Lead architecture workshops, design authority, and governance forums,
ensuring alignment between business strategy and technology delivery.
- Translate business and analytical requirements into practical architecture
solutions, articulating design decisions in terms of business value, risk, and
outcomes.
- Define and govern architecture artefacts including data models, architecture
diagrams, and technical standards.
- Implement data governance, master data management (MDM), and reference
data strategies, embedding security, privacy, and regulatory compliance (e.g.,
GDPR).
- Provide leadership and mentoring to architects, engineers, and delivery teams
and contribute to architectural capability development and client solutions.
Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Data Platforms
Candidates must demonstrate recent experience implementing AI or machine learning
capabilities within enterprise environments, including:
- Designing architectures supporting AI workloads, model training pipelines, and
inference services.
- Integrating AI outputs into operational and analytical workflows.
- Supporting model deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Ensuring AI solutions align with governance, ethical, and regulatory standards.
Essential Experience (Minimum Requirements)
Applicants should demonstrate:
- 20+ years' experience in data architecture, enterprise data platforms, or large
scale technology delivery.
- Significant experience delivering consulting engagements ideally within UK
public sector organisations.
- Proven track record designing and delivering enterprise-scale data and analytics
platforms.
- Experience leading architecture governance and design authority forums.
- Strong ability to engage senior stakeholders and translate architecture decisions
into business value.
- Deep knowledge of modern data architectures, cloud data platforms, and
distributed analytics ecosystems.
Technical Expertise
- Cloud data platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Modern architectures including data lakes, warehouses, and lakehouse
platforms.
- Streaming and event-driven data architectures.
- Data modelling, SQL, and modern data engineering ecosystems.
- Integration patterns including API-led and event-based architectures.
