With more than 25 years of experience, Rokon has established itself as one of Victoria’s leading civil contractors. We partner with some of the state’s largest developers and infrastructure owners, delivering high-quality projects safely, efficiently, on time and on budget.
We are proud of our progressive and diverse workforce, where skilled people are supported to succeed.
We’re looking for a Manager – HR & Recruitment to join our civil construction business and take ownership of recruitment and day-to-day people support across a busy, growing workforce.
This is a hands-on, fast-paced role managing recruitment across both blue collar and white collar positions, while also leading a small team and getting involved in a broad range of HR matters.
It could be a great opportunity for an experienced Recruitment Manager or Talent Acquisition professional who knows construction, infrastructure or another blue collar industry and is looking to broaden their career into HR.
What you'll be doing
Recruitment will be your bread and butter.
You'll manage recruitment across the business – from Operators, Labourers, Pipelayers and Leading Hands through to Supervisors, Engineers, Project Managers and Corporate Roles.
You'll be responsible for:
- Managing end-to-end blue collar and white collar recruitment
- Leading and supporting a small Recruitment team
- Working closely with senior leaders to understand workforce requirements
- Proactively sourcing candidates through SEEK, LinkedIn, referrals and industry networks
- Building talent pipelines for critical and hard-to-fill roles
- Managing recruitment for new projects and workforce mobilisation
- Driving a strong candidate experience from initial contact through to onboarding
- Managing agency and labour hire relationships where required
- Improving recruitment processes, systems and reporting
- Supporting workforce planning and internal succession opportunities
More than just recruitment While recruitment is the major focus, you'll also have the opportunity to build your HR capability and become involved across the broader employee lifecycle.
Depending on your experience, this could include:
- Providing practical HR advice to managers and supervisors
- Employee relations and performance management
- Employment contracts and employee changes
- Onboarding, probation and offboarding
- Policies and procedures
- Workplace investigations and disciplinary matters
- Award, EBA and Fair Work compliance
- Employee engagement and retention initiatives
- Learning, development and career pathways
- General HR projects and continuous improvement
You don't need to be an HR expert from day one. If you're a strong recruiter with good people judgement, commercial awareness and an interest in developing your HR capability, we'd be interested in talking to you.
What we're looking for You'll be someone who enjoys pace, variety and working closely with operational teams.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Strong recruitment experience within civil construction, infrastructure, engineering, trades, labour hire or another blue collar environment
- Experience recruiting a mix of blue collar and professional/technical roles
- Experience leading, mentoring or coordinating a small team
- Strong direct sourcing and candidate engagement skills
- The confidence to build relationships with managers at all levels of the business
- A practical and solutions-focused approach
- Strong organisation skills and the ability to juggle changing priorities
- Experience with platforms such as SEEK, JobAdder and LinkedIn Recruiter
- HR experience would be beneficial, but isn't essential if you're keen to learn
Why this role? This isn't a traditional corporate HR role.
You'll be close to the action, working directly with the people delivering our projects and helping make sure we have the right people in the right roles at the right time.
You'll have ownership of recruitment, responsibility for a small team and the opportunity to broaden your HR experience while working alongside experienced HR operational and senior leaders.
For an experienced recruitment manager looking for their next step, this could be an opportunity to move beyond pure recruitment and develop into a well-rounded HR and Recruitment leader within the civil construction industry.
If you're someone who knows how to find good people, enjoys working at pace and wants to build your HR career, we'd love to hear from you.
