This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Aboriginal leader to influence strategy, strengthen cultural capability and help shape meaningful change across a leading regional community services organisation.
Our client has been creating positive social change in regional Australia for more than 40 years. Working across homelessness and housing, youth and family services, disability inclusion, community programs and sector advocacy, the organisation now delivers services across more than 80% of regional NSW.
Reporting directly to the CEO and working as an influential member of the leadership team, the
Senior Manager – Aboriginal Leadership and Engagement will provide strategic leadership across our client's approach to Aboriginal workforce development, cultural capability, community engagement and culturally responsive service delivery.
This is an organisation-wide role with the opportunity to influence strategy, leadership practice and the way the organisation partners with Aboriginal communities, organisations and networks.
The opportunity You will work across Social Futures to strengthen cultural capability and ensure Aboriginal perspectives are genuinely considered in organisational decision-making, workforce initiatives, program development and service delivery.
You will also build and maintain trusted relationships with Aboriginal organisations, communities, partners and networks, ensuring engagement is meaningful, respectful and contributes to better outcomes.
Key areas of focus will include:
- Providing strategic advice to the CEO and leadership team on Aboriginal engagement, cultural capability and organisational priorities
- Leading and strengthening the organisation's Aboriginal workforce strategy, including capacity building and career development initiatives
- Supporting leaders to effectively manage, develop and support Aboriginal employees
- Coordinating the ongoing development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of their Reconciliation Action Plan
- Building strong, productive relationships with Aboriginal communities, organisations, networks, partners and advisory groups
- Strengthening the cultural capability of staff across the organisation
- Influencing culturally appropriate program development and service delivery
- Developing systems and approaches to monitor and strengthen organisational cultural performance
- Leading and influencing organisational change, including addressing barriers arising from historical practices and racism
- Creating opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the organisation
About you You will be an experienced Aboriginal leader who brings credibility, strong relationships and the ability to influence at both a strategic and community level.
You understand that meaningful change is built through relationships and trust, while also having the confidence to challenge thinking, navigate complex conversations and influence organisational decision-making.
You will bring:
- Strong and established connections with Aboriginal organisations, communities and individuals
- Demonstrated experience in consultation, stakeholder and community engagement
- Experience in strategic planning, project management and organisational change
- Strong leadership experience within community, health, human services or a related environment
- Highly developed communication, negotiation and influencing skills
- The confidence and credibility to work with senior leaders and provide considered advice, including on complex or challenging matters
- Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage competing priorities across a geographically dispersed organisation
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant relevant experience in areas such as business, project management, community services, social welfare or a related discipline
