Test Technician | Fife | Permanent | circa £30k - £32k
An established electronics manufacturer in Fife is looking for a Test Technician to test and fault find the circuit boards it builds in house.
If you get a real sense of satisfaction from taking a failed board, tracking the problem down to a single component and getting it working again, this is that job. Every day.
You'll sit at the heart of production. Boards come off the line, you put them through functional test, and when something doesn't pass, you're the one who works out why. Not a guess, and not a swap and hope. Proper diagnosis, down to component level.
Here's what you'll be doing:
- Functional testing of PCBs built in house
- Fault finding and debugging failures down to component level
- Helping Test Operators when they hit a debug or test problem they can't solve
- Recording yield and failure data so patterns get spotted and fixed
- Scoring supplier quality and reporting on it at monthly and quarterly supplier meetings
- Working to production targets on both throughput and quality
That supplier piece matters more than it sounds. When a component keeps failing, your data is what gets the conversation started with the supplier. So you're not just fixing boards. You're helping stop the same faults turning up again.
What you'll need to bring: - Experience testing and fault finding electronic PCBs, ideally in a production environment
- Confidence diagnosing faults to component level, not just board level
- Comfort using standard electronic test equipment and reading circuit diagrams
- A working knowledge of IPC 610 workmanship standards, or a willingness to learn them quickly
- Good attention to detail when recording data and results
- The patience to help less experienced colleagues work through problems
You might be coming from an electronics manufacturing background, a repair centre, a forces technical trade or an apprenticeship that's left you with strong practical skills. What matters is that you enjoy the hunt for the fault and you don't give up until you've found it.
You'll report to the Production Supervisor and work as part of a team that takes quality seriously, in a business that runs to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
