Test Engineer | Fife | Permanent | £38k - £42k
 
An established electronics manufacturer in Fife is looking for a Test Engineer to own its test function, from strategy and programming right through to the customer conversation.
 
This is a hands on role. You'll be at the bench running tests, diagnosing faults and fixing them, while also writing the programs and deciding what "good" looks like. The business sees test as a genuine differentiator, so your work won't be hidden in a corner of the shop floor. It'll be in front of customers.
 
Here's what you'll be doing:

• Defining test and inspection strategies with clear coverage and acceptance criteria
• Creating and controlling programs across AOI, X ray, flying probe, functional test and JTAG/boundary scan
• Supporting New Product Introduction, using first time yield data to catch early life failures before release
• Writing test specifications simple enough to run at operator level
• Estimating test times for new products and tracking quote versus actual
• Coaching and training operators across every test discipline
• Owning equipment availability, calibration, maintenance plans and test tooling
• Acting as the main point of contact for customers on test, including weekly calls and quarterly reviews

It's a broad brief. Some days you'll be deep in a fixture or debugging a functional test. Other days you'll be on a call with a customer, explaining what's happening and what you're doing about it.
 

What you'll need to bring:

• Test engineering experience in electronics manufacturing, ideally PCB assembly
• Hands on test and programming experience with some of AOI, X ray, flying probe, functional test or boundary scan
• A working knowledge of IPC 610 and ISO 9001 environments
• The confidence to deal directly with customers and own issues through to resolution
• A continuous improvement mindset, with mistake proofing built into how you think
• The patience to train others and the discipline to document what you do

 
You don't need to be expert in every test method listed. Nobody is. What matters is being strong in a few, curious about the rest, and keen to shape how things are done.
 
You'll report to the Operations Manager and work closely with Process Improvement, so your ideas have a direct route to the people who can act on them.
