My client designs and builds complex, made to order industrial equipment from a blank sheet. Every unit is engineered to the customer's own specification, then manufactured and tested in house. No catalogue.
 
 
You'll be the person who turns the engineers' designs into something the shop floor can build. And there's a second part to the job that makes it genuinely interesting.
 
 
The business has been around a long time. Decades of designs sit in an archive of paper and microfilm drawings, and a big part of your role will be bringing that history into CAD. Accurate, searchable models and drawings that the repair and aftermarket side of the business will rely on for years. It's detective work as much as drafting.
 
 
What you'll be doing:
 

• Producing 3D models, general arrangements, detail and assembly drawings
• Creating manufacturing drawings to BS 8888, with correct GD&T and tolerancing
• Converting legacy paper drawings into accurate CAD records
• Drawing existing equipment for repair and redesign projects, sometimes from workshop measurements
• Preparing drawings for fabrications, machined components and tooling
• Building and maintaining bills of materials
• Managing revisions, issue control and the drawing register
• Producing customer approval drawings and documentation packs

 
You'll work closely with the design engineers, production and quality, so you'll see your drawings become real kit rather than disappear into a system.
 
 
What you'll need:
 

• Experience as a Draughtsperson or CAD Technician in an engineering manufacturing environment
• Strong 2D and 3D CAD skills
• Solid working knowledge of BS 8888 and GD&T
• The ability to read older engineering drawings accurately
• A methodical, detail focused approach to records

 
 
It would help if you have an HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering, a background in heavy engineering, or exposure to reverse engineering. Knowledge of PDM systems, fabrication, machining or casting is a bonus.
