We are currently seeking an experienced Employee Relations Manager to join our People and Culture team, based in Brisbane. Reporting to the HR Director APAC, this role supports the development of positive relations between the organisation’s management and its 3,000+ employees in Australia, and supports the broader region as required. As a senior member of the regional HR leadership team, this position is a trusted advisor, hands-on business partner, and subject matter expert on ER and IR imperatives.
The day to day
As our Employee Relations Manager, you will:
- Provide day-to-day advice and leadership to leaders and HR on the full scope of ER/IR matters including but not limited to performance management, disciplinary issues, investigations and grievance handling
- Provide hands-on leadership to enterprise agreement negotiations, ensuring effective consultation, implementation and compliance
- Manage and resolve industrial disputes in collaboration with in-house legal counsel and represent ALS in Fair Work as required.
- Partner with Payroll and HR to ensure consistent application of industrial instruments and compliance with employment legislation
- Stay updated on relevant legal developments, emerging trends, and industry best practices. Communicate their implications to relevant internal stakeholders and support compliance efforts.
- Collaborate with HR and other stakeholders to develop and update employment-related policies, procedures and documentation.
- Facilitate clear and effective communication between management and employees, including delivering training as required to ensure risk mitigation, alignment and ongoing capability building.
- Act as the primary point of contact for union representatives and lead collaborative problem-solving initiatives.
- Contribute to the ongoing continuous improvement of our people and culture agenda, contributing to local, regional and global projects.
The essentials To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
- Solid experience in leading and/or supporting enterprise bargaining processes, preferably in both blue and white collar industries
- Tertiary qualifications in HR, Law, or Industrial Relations
- In-depth knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Fair Work processes, and award interpretation
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to coach leaders on ER/IR best practices
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- A collaborative, calm, and pragmatic approach to complex employment challenges
- Exposure to NZ or Asia-Pacific employment relations frameworks would be advantageous, but not essential.
