The Role
ALS is seeking enthusiastic Laboratory Assistants to join our metallurgical services business  as part of the Flotation team, based in Balcatta, Perth WA.  You will be a casual employee working up to 75 hours a fortnight, predominantly on day shifts 6:00am-2:00pm. with a view to permanent full-time employment after a period of service. Reporting to the Area Supervisor your responsibilities as a team member, will be to perform Flotation metallurgical testwork procedures safely and successfully to meet the expectations of our clients.
  
These are not FIFO mine site positions.
  
The day to day

Applicants will be based in the Balcatta laboratory, typical duties include:

• Supporting the Area Supervisor and Team leaders, you will assist in performing bench scale flotation tests and associated extractive metallurgy procedures.
• Support Flotation operators with test set up, monitoring and sample handling.
• Involved in sample preparation process procedures including grinding and splitting to specified parameters.
• Accurately record and process samples and test data.
• Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in the workplace.
• Operate equipment and follow test procedures under the guidance of the supervisory team.

The essentials

Successful candidates will possess the following skills and abilities:

• Hands-on or Laboratory based experience in metallurgy, mineral processing or samples preparations is highly regarded.
• Candidates with exposure to mine site testwork would make ideal candidates for this role.
• Knowledge of mineral processing or equipment operation would be very beneficial but not essential.
• Candidates with good mechanical aptitude and familiarity with grinding and flotation equipment would be highly desirable.
• Good communication, organisational and time management skills.
• Great attention to detail and be highly motivated.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good physical fitness with the ability to perform manual handling tasks.
• Good literacy, numeracy, and computer skills.
