The Melbourne Environmental Division is seeking a Full-time Instrument Chemist for the Inorganics Team in Springvale, Victoria. The successful applicant will become part of a team that strives to exceed client expectations by delivering quality results on time.
This role’s primary responsibility will be operating DA Instrumentation, however, there will be opportunity for the successful applicant to expand the scope to include other instrumentations, such as ICP-MS and ICP-OES.
Application for this role will also be considered for a potential Instrument Operator position within our team, in anticipation for future growth.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Daily analysis and reporting of Inorganic sample analysis.
- Ensuring analytical procedures and associated tasks are conducted in accordance with ALS Quality Work Instructions including QA/QC.
- Organising designated tasks to maximize daily efficiencies.
- Highlighting and rectifying anomalies in results, quality, and sample type behaviour,
- Performing housekeeping duties and maintaining relevant documentation.
- Calibrating and maintenance of equipment as required.
- Preparation of standards and performing calculations as required for sample analysis.
- Controlling consumable stock required for the tasks performed.
- Assisting in other duties or as required.
About you The successful candidate will possess the following qualities:
- Previous work experience in a commercial laboratory with a strong proven background of GLP compliance and high laboratory performance.
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent (Honours and Chemistry disciplines advantageous but all sciences backgrounds are encouraged to apply).
- Competent in Microsoft Office and experience with LIMS Software.
- A working knowledge of inorganic sample preparation techniques for Environmental samples.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
- Interest in method development, verification, and validation.
- Scientific interpretation, judgment and problem solving skills.
- A working knowledge and positive attitude towards lab safety requirements.
- Ability to work under pressure in a team environment fascilitated by an ability to plan and problem solve.
- A keen interest in inorganic chemistry and associated analysis with the ability to pick up new training and skillsets quickly.
- Ability to work a typical 8 hour shift across 5 days a week between Monday-Saturday; but also be flexible to do earlier or later shifts during busy periods (lab hours operate between 6AM-10PM) .
We are specifically seeking an individual with well-developed communication, interpersonal, analytical and practical problem-solving skills with the ability to manage and prioritise demanding workloads.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated to step up into a position where opportunities to further advance hands-on laboratory skills and technical knowledge are abound.
